October Horror Challenge 2019 #71: "Danger on Tiki Island"

Amazon was all "oh we think you'll like this movie" because of my recent watching history, which of course is full of horrible movies, so I only have my self to blame, really.

In this movie,  a research scientist travels to a secluded island to...uh...research stuff. He brings his wife along, so I guess he doesn't think it will be a dangerous trip, but he's wrong, because the island is home to a demon or monster of some kind that was created by radiation testing on the island (it's really not explained well). The people on the island think the monster is some kind of God, and they try to appease it with sacrifices (uh oh).

I'm making this movie sound way more interesting than it is. It probably could have been an ok movie, but the acting is bad, and the special effects are really not special. Plus it's never exactly clear what's going on. The trees in the forest of the island seem to be alive and try to trap people, so that's kind of cool, but the monster itself looks lime a guy covered with a garbage bag covered in peat moss.

Plus the researcher guy keeps waffling about the nuclear testing that went on at the island, whether there were people there when it happened, and whether it's responsible for whatever's going on now. It's pretty clear that the government are a bunch of dicks to do this nuclear testing either way, and I don't feel very sorry for the researcher not realizing that the island inhabitants hate him and OF COURSE they're going to try and hurt him. Dumbass. I don't like him much, but I kinda feel bad for his wife,  even if she is dumb. The action is on once it finally starts happening, but it's really silly, and kind of annoying that the filmmakers didn't use that WHE FIRST HOUR to explain the ot or develop the characters. This movie ends up being a bunch of flaws stitched together with plot holes. Not worth my time. Dammit, Amazon.
