October Horror Challenge 2019 #48: "Night of the Blood Beast"

Here's another cool movie poster that doesn't have much to do with the movie. It's almost as if they thought that scantily clad women in peril would draw people in to watch the movie. Wonder where they got that idea. Anyway, it kind of looks like a werewolf movie, but it's actually about an astronaut who crashes when returning to earth, and it turns out his body is incubating alien spawn. Eeeeewww! That premise alone would have gotten me into the theater no matter what the poster looked like.

The main story surrounds some scientists who discover the astronaut's body end up stranded in the woods at a research facility unable to radio for help, and they realize there's something wrong with the astronaut's body, and now they've all be exposed to whatever it is, and they can't get help. Great, what luck.

I think the script here is better than the execution, which makes sense because the movie was a Roger Corman rush job production, and there were lawsuits among the filmmakers concerning who actually wrote the script and who got credit. With the right production, this could actually be a pretty good movie. The story is cool, and it wouldn't take much to make, since the main characters are stranded in the woods for the duration of the movie. Maybe I'm weird for thinking about remakes like I do, but I hate to see a movie that could have been a lot better with some work. I wish these were the movies that got remade. They deserve a better shot. As it stands, the movie is cheesy and kinda silly, but it has some good ideas.
