I knew of this movie under the title "Swamp Women," which makes it sound a lot more like a horror movie. Since this version is called "Swamp Diamonds," I thought maybe Roger Corman was trying to get all poetic and call the women diamonds, like diamonds in the rough or something. Alas though, it's just a movie about women trying to find diamonds that are hidden in a swamp. I should have known better. Roger Corman is more about making cheap movies for cash grabs than for poetry. I think "X: The Man with X-ray Eyes" is probably his most poetic flick.
So this movie is about a gang of vicious women who kill people and rob people and are categorically unpleasant. They wind up in prison, and the police think they might be planning to escape, so they send a female cop undercover into the prison to infiltrate the gang, and it turns out they are planning to escape and dig up a fortune in stolen diamonds hidden deep in the swamp. The gang escapes, kills a few people, and takes some hostages along on their trek to recover the diamonds. Will the cops be able to catch them before they get away (or kill the lady cop?)
These women are pretty pissed off, and they spend most of their time fighting amongst each other and flirting with the guy they take as a hostage. Not very effecicient for a plan, and the undercover cop isn't very good at her job. Is it bad that I was rooting for the criminals to kill her? This movie has a lot of boring, pointless scenes of the women making their way through the Swamp that could have been cut without the story losing anything. There are some cool animal attacks (crocodile and a rattlesnake) but not much else. Roger Corman can do better.
