Now that it's clear the studio will keep milking this cash cow until it's dry, there's no drama surrounding how this movie is infringing on the series. It almost feels lighter to me, like this is the point where even the movies stopped taking themselves seriously and just went with the fun if a guy with a hockey mask who can't be killed and goes around killing people.
This movie takes place years after the event of the last movie. Tommy Jarvis is all grown up but still messed up in the head, and he digs up Jason's body to destroy it to get closure, but instead he accidentally brings Jason back to life (thanks a lot asshole) so now Jason is a zombie wandering around the surrounding area killing people. The town of Crystal Lake has changed its name, and the camp is now reopening with a bunch of new kids, because parents are genius enough to send there kids to the camp even after everything that happened. Now the new counselors have to try and stop Jason before they get killed too.
In keeping with the less serious vibe of this movie, there are some fun moments sprinkled throughout the film. One victim loses their wallet, and we see their American Express card floating away in a puddle (guess they don't leave home without it). At another point, an old man looks directly at the movie screen and muses that some people have a sick idea of entertainment (HA). My favorite joke though is when two little kids are hiding under the bed and one asks the other "what DID you want to be when you grew up?" I love it. This movie is a lot of fun, so I enjoyed getting to check it out again this year.
