2025 October Horror Challenge #30 "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers"
I just love the Halloween movies. Michael Myers is really the first horror icon that I remember liking when I was a kid I saw Halloween and Halloween 2 when I was 10 years old I think 11 and my mom was asleep and my brother and I snuck downstairs and watched the show called USA Up All Night with Gilbert Gottfried where he showed horror movies and we watched Halloween and Halloween 2 but we had to keep turning them off in case my mom would hear us and make us go to bed so I only remember bits and pieces but I remember Michael Myers and his scary white face mask and I remember thinking that he was the creepiest thing that I had ever seen He's creepy in a way that other horror icons aren't to me. Like some of them are gory like Freddy Krueger and Jason and some of them make me uncomfortable like the tall man in the Phantasm films but I think Michael Myers himself the word creepy fits him perfectly because he just looks at you with that blank face and those eyes that you can see anything human in them? That's down to the actors they do a good job portraying him I suppose.
Michael Myers was the first horror icon to be genuinely creepy for me so I will probably always love him for that even though his movies got pretty cheesy pretty quick. Halloween the original was a good movie at least I think so I know a lot of people think it's boring but I like it. Halloween too I've never liked Halloween too because it was cheesy and campy to me and it just wasn't as good as the original so I don't think it lived up to the hype from the original movie? Have you heard the saying second verse same as the first only a little bit louder and a little bit worse? That's Halloween too for me it's just the same only louder and worse. But I've softened to it over the years because it's got Michael Myers in it and he's creepy and he kills people so I can forgive it shortcomings and watch it around this time of year and not have a problem with it. Halloween 3 is a pretty good movie but it doesn't really have anything to do with Michael Myers so Halloween 4 is the next real Michael Myers movie and I have always liked it. I know that it's cheesy and I know that it's silly and I know that it's perhaps not the best movie ever made, but for my money it might be my favorite of the series just because it's so much fun to sit around and watch with a bowl of popcorn and some friends. it's got Michael Myers being creepy but he does more than he does in the original movie there are more kills There's more Gore There's more outward effects like everyone in the town banding together to kill Michael Myers at the end of the movie and that tracks with what I know of small towns so I like this movie despite its flaws and I'm having fun watching it now as a little older and a little wiser but still the horror fan that I've always been.
