2025 October Horror Challenge #18 "Final Destination: Bloodlines"

this is the best opening sequence of any film in the series. i think this will end up being the best film in the series too. I'm calling it right now. So this is cool. And the beginning when the first final destination came out I didn't like it much but then when the second one came out I did like the second one so I started watching them regularly as they came out and I started really liking them. So much so that I would stay up late sometimes talking with my horror nerd friends about what we thought was going on in the movie and what we thought was happening the overarching plot then connects all of the movies together. which if you haven't seen them is just that people who are supposed to die and these horrific tragedies get visions of their deaths before it happens so they avoid their deaths but then they've cheated death so death comes back and kills each and every one of them in creative ways. it's fun watching the different ways that people get killed which makes me sound like a serial killer but it's funny because it's not real but sometimes it gets a little bit scary because it could be real I believe things like this could happen. So we're staying up late at night and we're discussing these movies and I developed a theory see death is trying to kill these people because death is evil right Well in this movie death is a dick in this movie. But there's got to be an equally strong force of good in the world that is sending these visions to people to make them see the future so that they can escape death so there is good fighting against the evil. at least that's what I thought was going on I wasn't sure but it was fun to speculate. Well it seems like with this movie where at that same kind of junction because it doesn't begin with some the way the others began with someone having a vision of their death and preventing their death pissing death off and making him kill everyone for the rest of the movie. No this movie begins with visions of a horrible death but instead of the visions coming to a person and preventing them from getting killed these visions are coming to a young girl in her dreams and she doesn't know why she's having the nightmstes. But she sees people dying in the horrible tragedy in the final destination movie way they get crushed and smashed and scraped in half by an elevator and it's pretty gross but pretty cool. So I'm thinking maybe my little theory had some truth to it and maybe that's the direction This movie's going to go in because it seems like there's a force that's giving these visions to people and it gave The visions to the people who survived and now it's giving the visions to their family members because they are family who should never have existed because their parents were supposed to have died in this horrible accident back in the '50s. "I can appreciate that our family is clearly gonna need some counseling in the future, but can we focus for a second on the fact that we're all going to die?!" RIP Tony Todd. you were loved. I guess it's confession time now because there's something else that I have to say. These movies fascinate me in part because I am and always have been terrified of death and dying. Yes I know I know. I'm a Christian, so I shouldn't fear death, I should look forward to it, and be sure where I'm going, and everything will be all right and bunnies and rainbows will fly out of my ass. But that's not how it works. I'm terrified of death I always have been. I drowned in 2006 I've been hit by a car I had a psychotic break and lost complete control of my mind for an hour and 45 minutes drink enough vodka to kill 10 men and I don't know why I'm still here. harsh but true. So death has always really scared me and it's something that I don't talk about because I know people will offer me platitudes and they're trying to help or they'll tell me to find Jesus because that will make me less afraid of death but I found Jesus and you know on the night before his death he said if it's possible let this cup pass from me so he was afraid of death too just because he did it doesn't mean he wasn't human too. So I think that these movies are cathartic for me because they give me a way to see people die in stupid everyday ways and I get to see that there's one little thing that leads to another that leads to another that leads to another until a person dies and it's clever but no action is inconsequential no matter how small it may seem it's going to come back to bite you later on. I just think these movies off for a lot of truth about life so I watch them and I'm still terrified of death. This is important because I realized when I was watching this movie that it is the best of all six of the final destination films because it has shoulders of the other films to stand on and it has this lore that's been built up throughout all the other movies so it's pretty fascinating at this point now that well this isn't going to be the last movie because we just heard that they're going to be making a seventh one but if this was the final wrap up it would have been good and I would have been okay with that because it was a fitting send off for Tony Todd and a fitting end to the franchise because you can't beat death. overall this is a great movie I really appreciate the cool gore the cleverness the way the writers always try to stick to their patterns and make it more believable and make me never want to be on the road behind a logging truck ever again in my life Make me not want to ride a roller coaster or an airplane Make me not want to go tanning in one of those tanning beds just so many things and so many memorable deaths over the years that I have to say this franchise is one of my favorites in horror bar none because it allows me to explore death from a safe distance and talk about death and not be afraid of it. So there you have it it's not Jesus that makes me not be afraid of death it's this movie. or if it is Jesus Jesus is using this movie and speaking through this movie to comfort me and Christians don't like that answer either Christians don't like anything I don't understand Christians and I am one and I still don't understand them. But this is a great movie and it's well worth checking out even if you're afraid of death like me because you neve...Tony Todd was right, you never know when.
