2015 October Horror Challenge #9 "Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead"

The first "Dead Snow" is one of those horror movies that horror fans latched onto and raved about.  It's one of those Nazi zombie movies (yes, there are enough of those for them to have their own little sub-category within the horror genre...we horror fans are strange little people).  Anyway, a lot of the Nazi Zombies movies are kind of terrible, but "Dead Snow" was supposed to be good, and when I finally got to see it, I loved it.  I was hoping the sequel would also be good, nasty fun.  How did it fare?

This movie picks up right where the first one left iof, giving us a brief summary of what happened in the first movie, and then jumping right into the action.    It's gory and messy, but still entertaining, and it gives us a new plot situation and set of characters to follow (and watch as they get dispatched in icky ways).  It builds on the plot of the first movie, and we see the carnage is far from over.

We get a little more info here about the evil old Nazi Zombies and how they operate here, and there are some cool twists and additions to the lore.  I won't spoil the main character's dilemma, but it made me giggle with sadistic glee.  It's an idea I've seen done before, but the filmmakers manage to make it feel fresh anyway by playing up the humor of the situation.  I also dug the "zombie squad," the "professionals" who are called in to help with the growing zombitle horde.  Overall, it was a lot of fun watching the zombies dispatch people and watching the main characters as they try to fight back.  It's a bushel of gory fun, just like the original.
