2015 October Horror Challenge #29 "The Blood Lands"
I don't know why everyone has a bug up their ass about this movie. Seriously, it got terrible reviews, it's rated like one and a half stars on Netflix, and no one seems to like it, but I didn't think it was half bad. The description on Netflix doesn't even do it justice, either. A couple moves into a new house and discovers a creature in the woods? WTF movie are they talking about, because that's not what happens here, and I think this movie deserves better.
First of all, the couple is from England and the house they buy is in Scotland. I wouldn't have thought that mattered much, but it apparently dies. The couple are really entitled assholes (especially the husband,bi wanted to stab him) and the house they buy was repossessed from a poor family that had owned it for generations. The husband keeps making comments about how Scotland is a "shit country with shit weather" and stuff like that, which leads me to believe he has a low opinion of the locals.
Once the couple moves in, the action starts and doesn't really let up. First they lose power, then they hear weird noises, then the front door is mysteriously open, then all hell breaks loose. Someone (more than one someone, actually) is after them, and they don't know why. There's not much gore, but there's plenty of menacing atmosphere, creepy masked assailants, and a terrifying sequence in the dark woods where the couple are hunted like animals. No, the movie isn't perfect, but I really enjoyed it, and I think it's worth checking out.
