2011 October Horror Movie Challenge Movie 14: Scream Blacula Scream
This sequel is actually about as good as the original movie. Some aspects even improve upon the original. Because this movie embraces the campiness of its premise, it manages to have scenes that are actually humorous, and then some scenes are actually pretty creepy without everything feeling like it's all good and bad mashed together because the movie takes itself way too seriously, like in the original. This time, a young man accidentally raised Blacula from beyond the grave when he seeks to get revenge on members of a cult who have corrupted his family and stolen the inheritance that he believes is his birthright. Blacula is irked at having his slumber disturbed in this way, and he enslaves the man, needing a minion to do his bidding. This guy is a real piece of work, and it's fun to see Blacula lay the smackdown on his. William Marshall makes a good vampire. He's menacing and elegant and charming. He really deserves more recognition for his performance in these movies than he gets.
Blacula continues his antisocial behavior from the original movie, stalking and eating people to feed his hunger, and falling into another hopeless love affair (this guy will never learn...paging Dr. Phil, stat! With any luck, Blacula will eat Dr. Phil and save the rest of us from having to deal with his annoying advice...win-win!) This is a fun movie that's worth a watch for vampire fans.
