October Horror Challenge 2017 #1: "Shrknado 4: The 4th Awakens"
So the Horror Challenge starts today, and I'll be honest with you, I'm kinda discombobulated and not necessarily in the mood for a movie I have to think about very deeply. Shrknado to the rescue! These movies are ridiculous, but I still have a lot of fun watching them, and like I said, my brain is rice pudding right now, so this seemed the perfect movie to use to kick off the challenge this year.
These movies have a simple (read: asinine) premise: tornados pick up sharks and turn into super storms carrying live sharks that eat people while they blow through the country destroying people. Now, while tornados CAN actually pick up wildlife while they storm through the country, they wouldn't really pick up sharks that remain alive and continue to eat people, but who cares about logic? Let's watch tornados full of CGI sharks kill people!
These movies mimic the over-the-top sci-fi horror movies of yesteryear, overly melodramatic with overacting and silly music. Ian Ziering plays a guy named Fin (ugh) who is the big hero who fights the Sharknado-y and wins. Tara Ried plays his once estranged wife who falls in love with him again and remarries him only to get eaten by a Sharknado-y. I heard she was going to be back for this movie, and I won't spoil how that happens, but it's cheese-tastic. There's lots if CGI sharks wreaking ridiculous havoc and silly pseudo-science explaining why this is happening and how to fight it. All in all, lots of silly fun. Just what the doctor ordered.
